Bookmaker:

Hoping to make another Bundesliga statement this weekend, Bayern Munich will welcome Augsburg to the Allianz Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Bayern Munich

Starting with the hosts, while Bayern Munich might have come under a huge amount of scrutiny for their 3-0 Super Cup defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig on August 12th, the German giants certainly came roaring back last weekend. Opening up the 2023/24 campaign with a stellar performance as they cruised their way to a 4-0 romp against Werder Bremen, Thomas Tuchel’s men will be looking to lay down another marker here. Eventually somehow clinging to their domestic crown back in May following Borussia Dortmund’s infamous collapse, the former Chelsea boss has seen his side win five of their last six Bundesliga contests continuing on from last season. Getting the new season underway with what would have been a welcomed clean sheet, Munich will feel that they have a perfect platform to build on heading into Sunday’s return to the Allianz Arena.

Team News

All missing out last weekend and dealing with respective injury issues, Bayern Munich will be without the likes of Manuel Neuer, Gabriel Marusic, Bouna Sarr and Portugal international Raphael Guerreiro this weekend. Likewise, Tuchel’s side are still sweating over the fitness of ex-Arsenal starlet Serge Gnabry.

Finding the net on his Bundesliga debut last weekend, England skipper and summer arrival Harry Kane will spearhead Bayern’s charge on Sunday afternoon.

Augsburg

As for the visitors, firmly at the heart of another relegation scrap last season, Augsburg are simply looking to find some Bundesliga stability this time around. However, failing to pick up any kind of summer boost during their pre-season preparations, Enrico Maaben’s side opened up the 2023/24 campaign with a stunning 4-4 draw at home against Borussia Monchengladbach. Crashing out of the DFP Pokal on August 13th following an infamous 2-0 loss at the hands of lower-league Unterhaching, the Whites will be more than aware that they face a monumental challenge when they travel to the Allianz Arena this weekend. Remarkably failing to win any of their final 13 straight Bundesliga contests last season a run that stems all the way back to October 2022 Augsburg also slumped to a 5-3 defeat when they arrived in Munich five months ago.

Team News

Both still dealing with long-term injury issues, Augsburg will once again be without the duo of Masaya Okugawa and Raphael Framberger. Likewise, still serving a suspension that has carried on from last season, Maaben will also be unable to call upon 25-year-old Robert Gumny.

Making the move from Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce this summer, 25-year-old Mergim Berisha will lead Augsburg’s charge at the Allianz Arena.
